MIA (Missing In Action)

My sincere apologies for not adding to the thoughts on my blog for a bit. You’ll have to forgive me as my “day job” has me quite busy. And until Riverbank gets a charter like the one Modesto has, I expect to have to work a “real job” for some time to come. After all a man’s family needs to eat, right?

I will post more on this later, but suffice it to say in this moment that I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the Modesto Bee and their decision to post the article that the posted yesterday from a paper in Manila regarding the hundreds of jobs being shipped to Manila from Riverbank.

And their response of needing to provide both sides of the story smells just a bit too much like an effort to sell papers to me.

Anyhow, as I said, I apologize for being absent but I expect to be back online soon.

Thanks for reading

Councilmember Appointment

Just a note to confirm the Modesto Bee article that came out this morning.

The Riverbank City Council voted 3-1 to appoint David I. White to the vacancy left by the resignation of Kathy Anaya.

I am very excited about this appointment as I have seen first-hand how much Mr. White cares about the City of Riverbank and the community of Crossroads. His dedication to bringing the Crossroads Community  into the “fold” of the City of Riverbank in general is an extremely important issue for me as Mayor of Riverbank.

We cannot afford to have 2,3,4 or 5 “Riverbanks”. We must find a way for all of them to come together as one community. I believe this can be addressed by making Riverbank more “connected” through the way development is handled in the future. I also believe that our soon-to-be-completed General Plan speaks well to this issue. But that is a topic for another discussion.

Anyhow, I have to say that all of last night’s applicants for the position were well qualified. For me, Mr. White’s involvement with various community meetings and his recent involvement with the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department sold me on his abilities to lead and to work with others in the city, on staff and on the City Council.

Now the only difficulty will be the fact that we have a Dave White and a David White on the Council.

Welcome aboard David, now the work begins.

City Council opening

Riverbank City Council member Kathy Anaya has tendered her resignation from the Council effective February 1, 2008.

It has been my privilege to work alongside Kathy for the past three years. She and I came onto the council at the same time after the November 2004 election. Her presence on the Council will be missed. Kathy was a staunch supporter of the Riverbank Downtown Businesses, helping to launch what would become the Riverbank Business Association.

Thank you for your service.

Due to the unfortunate resignation of Councilmember Anaya, the City of Riverbank has a vacancy on the City Council.

The Council voted last night in a 3 -1 decision to appoint a member of the community to this position to fulfill the remainder of Ms. Anaya’s term which is up in November.

I supported this decision as, from my own personal feelings, I did not want to have the position vacant until June when the next county-wide election takes place. I understand that there is a feeling among residents that residents should have a choice of who to vote on for this position. I understand that perspective, and support the residents’ right to vote on Council members.

However, first, I did not feel that it would serve the best interests of the City to have that position vacant until June. And second I did not want to put anyone in the position of having to run for an election in June, only to have to turn around and run again in November at the end of Ms. Anaya’s term.
